The Little Things

rooster-fameimagesdotcomThis morning little Bear woke up early. Before my alarm, before the sun, even before the dogs. I was so annoyed he is yelling from his crib, “mom, mooooom, I all done! Baba! MOOOOOOOOMMMMMM” So I stumbled downstairs and got his bottle ready all while he is yelling demands from  his room. When I go back up he is in a full lather because I have not moved fast enough. (we are working on patience) I sit him down with his bottle, don’t judge I still haven’t figured out how to get him to drink milk out of a cup. He looks at it with disgust and says “Milk”. I digress….

I get him ready for his day, we play stinky feet, we have morning cuddles, and then he wants to play with his blocks. B L O C K S, this is something we are also working on because he consistently says cocks. I sit down with him and we are stacking, knocking down, and repeating. While we play we talk…. this is huge as far as I’m concerned. If you  listen to them when they are small even if they make no sense, they can see that you are engaged and care what they say. He told me whole stories, I asked specific questions, getting him ready for conversations. Conversations that will start out with how was your day and will someday when he is grown start out with Mom, I need to talk to you. These are the building blocks… that is B L O C K S not cocks. The building blocks of our children’s lives.

Every day I’m amazed by the range of emotions you can go through being a parent. This is a moment I’m going to hold on to for as long as I can. This is the good stuff.
